Jakarta – Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, met with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, June 13.
After the meeting, Prabowo reported on the outcomes of his official visit to Jordan and Saudi Arabia, which took place from June 10 to 12, 2024.
The visit included representing President Jokowi at the High-Level Conference ‘Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza’ in Jordan.
“I just arrived from abroad, from Jordan and Saudi Arabia, landing at Halim at 11 AM. I was just received by President Jokowi. I reported on the results from the summit in Jordan. This summit was specifically to discuss the immediate humanitarian aid that could be prepared,” explained Prabowo.
He added that the summit also discussed the ceasefire that is hoped to be achieved to end the conflict between Palestine and Israel soon.
“So, the summit was held at the invitation of the King of Jordan; the President of Egypt; and the UN Secretary-General and was also attended by the President of Palestine and several other heads of state and government, including the Prime Ministers of Spain, Slovenia, Morocco, Lebanon, the President of Rwanda, and several other countries,” he detailed.
Prabowo mentioned that Indonesia has outlined several steps to help resolve this conflict, one of which includes Indonesia’s willingness to evacuate 1,000 patients to be treated in Indonesian hospitals.
“Steps were arranged to manage aid, and Indonesia has announced that we are ready to evacuate 1,000 patients to be treated in Indonesia and, once they recover, will be returned to Gaza, or when the situation normalizes,” concluded Prabowo.
In addition to attending the summit, Prabowo also met with several leaders and prominent officials from various countries, including King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan; U.S. Secretary of State Antony John Blinken; Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Muhammad bin Salman (MBS) bin Abdulaziz Al Saud; and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
