Jakarta – In an effort to enhance the health and nutrition quality of the Indonesian population, President Joko Widodo has officially established the National Nutrition Agency. This decision was formalized through Presidential Regulation Number 83 of 2024, signed on August 15, 2024. This new agency is aimed at addressing nutritional issues that often hinder the development of human resources in the country.
The National Nutrition Agency is designed as an institution that reports directly to the President, with an organizational structure that involves various key elements in government and society. It is led by a Steering Council comprising national figures, religious leaders, community leaders, military and police retirees, and academics, demonstrating the government’s seriousness in involving various sectors in handling nutrition issues.
The primary focus of the National Nutrition Agency is on providing nutrition for school-aged children, toddlers, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. Through coordination and setting technical policies, as well as providing and distributing nutritional resources, the agency aims to improve access to nutritious and adequate food for the most vulnerable groups.
In its operations, the National Nutrition Agency will collaborate with various governmental and non-governmental organizations to promote effective nutritional policies and oversee their implementation across Indonesia. This success is expected to reduce the rates of malnutrition and undernutrition, which have long been serious issues in various regions.
The establishment of the National Nutrition Agency not only reflects the government’s commitment to addressing health issues but also its strategy in integrating efforts to develop healthy and productive human beings as a national priority.
