Washington, D.C. – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received an honor guard welcome upon his arrival at the White House on Tuesday morning, November 12 (local time), or early Wednesday, November 13 (WIB). Prabowo’s visit included a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden.
Arriving through the White House’s North West gate with his presidential motorcade, Prabowo was greeted by a line of U.S. military personnel holding flags representing all 50 states, underscoring the respect and friendship between the two nations.
Upon reaching the West Wing Portico, Prabowo exited his vehicle and was greeted by Acting Chief of Protocol Ethan Rosenzweig. He was then escorted to the Roosevelt Room to sign the presidential guest book, a symbolic gesture marking the honor of his visit.
Following this, Prabowo proceeded to the Oval Office, where Biden greeted him warmly with a handshake before they began their discussions.
The two leaders addressed a range of topics, including strengthening U.S.-Indonesia cooperation and tackling current global issues such as the situations in Gaza and the South China Sea.
“We also discussed global challenges, including the situation in Gaza and the South China Sea,” Biden noted.
Prabowo expressed his deep respect and gratitude to Biden for the warm welcome and the U.S. President’s previous congratulatory call following Prabowo’s election.
“Thank you, President Biden, for welcoming me. I also want to thank you personally for calling to congratulate me on my election as President of Indonesia,” Prabowo stated.
In their meeting, Biden highlighted the 75-year history of strong diplomatic relations between the United States and Indonesia, affirming a shared commitment to furthering the partnership.
“For 75 years, the diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and the U.S. has been the strongest it has ever been, and today we will discuss how we can continue to strengthen this partnership,” Biden said.
Prabowo acknowledged the U.S. as a valued friend, recognizing America’s support during Indonesia’s struggle for independence and in times of need.
“For us, the United States is a very good friend. The U.S. supported us in our fight for independence and has helped us many times when we needed it,” Prabowo said. (RR)
