Jakarta- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto revealed his government’s challenges in making efficiency or budget savings.
In a speech at the VI Democratic Congress in Jakarta on Tuesday (25/2), Prabowo said that Indonesia is currently seeking efficiency and reallocating funds to more important programmes.
‘This is the country, there are shortcomings, but we have strong potential. We see that everywhere we can save, that’s good, to be used in more important areas,’ he said.
However, Prabowo said, the efficiency was in fact not easy to do because there were people who were already comfortable and did not want to be disturbed by the transfer of funds.
He said one of the efficiencies made was cutting down on comparative studies abroad. According to him, abroad is ‘so-so’ and it is more important to focus on the welfare of the people.
‘It is sometimes difficult, people who are already comfortable. Many go on [comparative] studies abroad, I understand,’ he added.
‘The people still need us to finish the first few years, improve welfare. The people are strong, prosperous, the budget is sufficient. I say Indonesia will succeed in becoming a prosperous country,’ he said. (RR)
