Singapore— Indonesian Defense Minister (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto, while speaking at the 21st Shangri-La Dialogue in 2024 in Singapore, emphasized the importance of prudence, especially for China and the United States, which are currently competing.
Prabowo called on the leaders of the great civilization of China and the US to remember their global leadership responsibilities.
“We call on all leaders of the great Chinese civilization and leaders of the United States, who also represent the great Western civilization, to bear significant responsibilities in their roles as global leaders. Countries around the world depend on, rely on, and demand the wisdom and benefits from these major nations,” Prabowo said at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Saturday (1/6).
Prabowo believes that this can be achieved through good collaboration and cooperation.
“We are confident that we can cooperate, collaborate in achieving the common good of humanity. With great power also comes great responsibility, science and technology give us the opportunity to improve the lives of our societies,” continued Prabowo.
“However, without wisdom, without good intentions, science and technology can also quickly bring disaster to our world,” Prabowo added.
Furthermore, Prabowo expressed that nationalism needs to be balanced with the spirit of patriotism as a foundation for working together towards wisdom.
“Nationalism must be balanced with humanity. Patriotism must be balanced with wisdom. And respecting all values, let’s work for the common good,” concluded Prabowo.
