Jakarta – President-elect of Indonesia for the period 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, has assured that sovereignty and national interests are the number one priority in economic partnerships with other countries.
This was expressed in an article he wrote and was published in the international media outlet Newsweek on Wednesday (June 12) under the title “The Road Ahead for Indonesia.”
“I have grand plans for the country I love, but I do not see Indonesia’s development as a zero-sum game competition with other countries in the world. We are open. We welcome partnerships and economic cooperation with other countries and fellow economic powers,” Prabowo wrote.
“What we want is for our partners to understand that for us, the sovereignty and national interests of Indonesia will always come first. Ultimately, Indonesia cannot ally itself with any one power,” he continued.
According to Prabowo, this aligns with the vision of Indonesia’s geopolitical position. He noted that currently, Indonesia will continue its strong cooperation with China as a significant regional force, an important economic partner, and a nation with a long history.
At the same time, Indonesia is also striving to expand and deepen its close partnerships with the US and Western countries.
“This is important for us, supported not only by mutual interests and cooperation in several fields but also by shared values,” Prabowo explained.
The same approach will apply to countries in Africa. Prabowo also emphasized a special focus on Africa, which he described as a continent close to his heart and a land full of opportunities.
“We can support each other, share experiences, and by building synergy and partnerships, work to transform our countries,” said Prabowo.
Currently, according to Prabowo, Indonesia is at a pivotal point of opening a new chapter for the future. He feels fortunate to be able to contribute to Indonesia as the current Minister of Defense and soon as the President-elect, by realizing the country’s and society’s true potential.
“I can only hope that by working together with all friends and partners, I can pave the way for a prosperous and harmonious Indonesia for future generations.”
