Jakarta – Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka have been officially declared the elected President and Vice President by the General Election Commission (KPU) of Indonesia in Jakarta on Wednesday (April 24).
Hasyim Asy’ari, the chairman of the KPU, announced during the plenary session that the ticket number 2, Prabowo-Gibran, has been elected for the presidential term of 2024.
“Candidate number 2, Prabowo-Gibran, is hereby established as the elected presidential and vice-presidential pair for the 2024 term, receiving 96,214,691 votes or 58.59%,” Hasyim stated.
The 96 million votes represent the total valid national votes, achieving the required majority in each of the 38 provinces across Indonesia.
The confirmation of the elected President and Vice President by the KPU is based on Article 4 of the KPU Regulation No. 6 of 2024, which stipulates that the declaration must occur no later than three days following the decision of the Constitutional Court.
“This decision is effective as of the date it was made. Declared in Jakarta, on April 24, 2024,” continued Hasyim.
Previously, Prabowo and Gibran departed together from Prabowo’s residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV, Jakarta. Initially, Prabowo arrived at the residence at 09:06 AM WIB, followed by Gibran at 09:13 AM WIB.
Then, both dressed in long white shirts and black trousers, proceeded to the KPU building, arriving at the venue by 09:50 AM WIB. Upon arrival, Prabowo and Gibran immediately approached the media to give a brief statement.
Prabowo expressed that their appearance together was part of the democratic process of the presidential election. “We have followed, we accept the KPU’s decision,” he said.
He also mentioned that following the official declaration, he and Gibran would prepare to work diligently for the people.
“Moving forward, we will work hard, prepare ourselves, as the main priority now is our duty as political leaders to collaborate. The people expect political leaders to work together, to work for the people,” stated Prabowo.
