St. Petersburg – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, made a memorable debut at the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), delivering a compelling speech that drew eight rounds of applause, including from Russian President Vladimir Putin himself.

Speaking on the main stage alongside key global leaders—President Putin, Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain, China’s Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, and South Africa’s Vice President Paul Mashatile—Prabowo underscored Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to non-alignment, peaceful cooperation, and global friendship.

“Indonesia chooses the non-aligned path and seeks friendship with all nations. A thousand friends are never enough; even one enemy is too many,” Prabowo declared, prompting immediate applause from the audience.

Throughout his address, Prabowo emphasized global collaboration as the only way forward in a world facing unprecedented challenges. He called on world leaders to prioritize peace over conflict and cooperation over competition.

The Indonesian President also paid tribute to the historical significance of St. Petersburg, expressing admiration for Russia’s resilience and sacrifice during war.

“I thank President Putin for the invitation to this historic city. As a student of history, I deeply respect St. Petersburg’s legacy. I just visited the cemetery of war victims—truly a reminder of the cost of peace,” Prabowo said, drawing another wave of applause.
