Jakarta, July 28, 2025 — The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily suspended the operations of its Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) following the discovery of substandard food within the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program.

“BGN has taken firm action by halting the operations of the affected SPPG units until the investigation is complete and MBG food samples are fully tested in the laboratory,” said Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the BGN, in Jakarta on Monday (July 28).

BGN has partnered with independent institutions, as well as local health and education departments, to investigate the cause of the incident while continuing to closely monitor the health of affected students.

“On behalf of the National Nutrition Agency, we extend our deepest apologies to the students, parents, schools, and all parties affected by this incident and the discovery of unfit food in the MBG Program,” Redy said.

He emphasized that BGN maintains zero tolerance for negligence in the procurement and distribution of MBG meals that may pose risks to the health of beneficiaries.

“The health and safety of all MBG recipients is our top priority,” he asserted.

The agency is actively coordinating with local government authorities to ensure that the response on the ground is carried out swiftly and effectively.

“This incident will serve as a key lesson for our future improvements,” Redy added.

Corrective measures currently underway include: Stricter partner screening and regular evaluation of food providers, Enhanced hygiene standards, Improvements to the supply chain and food quality monitoring, and The development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on best practices and expert recommendations.

“The National Nutrition Agency is fully committed to ensuring that the MBG Program meets all food safety standards and delivers its intended benefits without compromising health. With the support and vigilance of all stakeholders, we believe the program can continue to serve the people effectively,” Redy concluded.
