Following a military jet escort, in an extraordinary display of personal diplomacy King Abdullah II of Jordan personally received Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto upon his arrival at Marka Military Airport in Amman on April 13, 2025.
The Jordanian monarch then invited President Prabowo to join him in a vehicle, personally driving him from the airport to his hotel in Amman.
Such a personal act of hospitality is uncommon among heads of state and highlights the close relationship they share.
In fact, King Abdullah II personally driving a foreign head of state from the airport to the city has never been done before.
The two leaders have a history of collaboration, particularly in addressing pressing regional issues.
Their meeting in June 2024 during the “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza” conference further solidified their partnership.
This recent act of personal hospitality by King Abdullah II not only emphasizes the strong bilateral ties between Jordan and Indonesia but also sets a precedent in diplomatic relations, showcasing the importance of personal connections in international diplomacy.
