Cairo — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has directed the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo to closely monitor the well-being of Indonesian students studying in Egypt to ensure no one is left struggling.
Prabowo delivered this message during a meeting with Indonesian students at Al Azhar University on Wednesday (December 18).
“Studying in a foreign country is not easy. Being far from family is challenging. I believe you are resilient and determined. Keep striving,” Prabowo encouraged.
He further instructed the education attaché to pay attention to students who might be facing difficulties.
“Education attaché, monitor our students who are having a hard time. I will request a detailed report from the Ambassador on their conditions,” he stated.
Prabowo also advised the students to focus on their studies with dedication and diligence.
“Acquire knowledge for the nation. Do good for the people. That is my message. I am grateful for this opportunity to meet you in person and speak directly with you,” Prabowo said.
He highlighted the historical significance of Al Azhar University, noting its reputation and connection to many prominent Indonesian scholars, including Indonesia’s fourth President, Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur. Prabowo expressed his hope that the students would become the next generation of national leaders.
“Gus Dur, a Muslim leader and former Chairman of NU (Nahdlatul Ulama), came from a family of great Islamic scholars. He was a man of noble character, a renowned figure of inclusivity, and a deeply beloved Muslim leader,” Prabowo remarked.
Prabowo also thanked the students for choosing to study at Al Azhar University, an institution rich in history and known for promoting a peaceful and moderate interpretation of Islam.
“Al Azhar teaches the principles of peaceful Islam—Islam that fosters harmony, not hatred. It teaches us to find common ground rather than seeking faults in one another,” he explained.
