Cairo – President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, arrived in Cairo, Egypt, at Cairo International Airport at 8:10 p.m. local time on Tuesday (17/12), or 1:10 a.m. Jakarta time.
Prabowo’s arrival was warmly welcomed by several Egyptian officials, including Minister of State for Military Production Major General Muhamad Solah, Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia Yasser Hassan Elshemy, Indonesian Ambassador to Cairo Lutfi Rauf, and Defense Attaché Colonel Dafris D. Syafruddin.
As he disembarked from the plane, Prabowo was greeted with a red carpet and an honor guard. Dressed in his signature brown safari suit and a black cap, Prabowo paused to salute the honor guard.
Prabowo’s visit to Cairo is at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. He is also scheduled to attend the D-8 Summit, an economic cooperation forum comprising eight countries: Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.
After his engagements in Egypt, Prabowo is scheduled to stop in Malaysia to meet Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim before returning to Indonesia.
“In the current global context, the D-8 Summit is an important event. Notably, as part of the rotation, Indonesia will assume the D-8 chairmanship starting January 1, 2026. That is why I am attending,” Prabowo stated before departing for Egypt. (RR)
