Singapore — The arrival of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in Singapore for the National Day celebrations on Saturday (Aug. 9) was met not only with a warm reception, but also with an outpouring of patriotism from Indonesians living in the city-state—just days ahead of the nation’s 80th Independence Day on August 17.

Small Indonesian and Singaporean flags waved in unison as members of the diaspora, Indonesian citizens, and students filled the hotel lobby, greeting the President with cheers and applause.

In the midst of the crowd, Cindy Claresta, representing Indonesians in Singapore, shared a heartfelt message for the homeland.

“My hope for Indonesia is that it will continue to succeed, grow rapidly, and see great improvements in education,” Cindy said.

She added that Indonesia’s achievements over the past year have laid a strong foundation for the future.

“Of course, we’re thrilled to see so many accomplishments by Indonesia this year, and going forward, we hope new talents will continue to emerge in our journey toward Indonesia Emas 2045,” she explained.

Cindy concluded her remarks with a spirited call that electrified the crowd.

“Happy 80th Independence Day, Indonesia! Merdeka!” she declared, prompting enthusiastic applause and cheers from those present.

The moment served as a striking portrait of people-to-people diplomacy—proof that, far from home, love for the motherland only grows stronger, especially when welcoming the nation’s leader during a historic milestone.
