Palembang — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, officially launched the Gerakan Indonesia Menanam (Indonesia Planting Movement), or Gerina, initiated by renowned Islamic scholar Ustad Adi Hidayat in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Wednesday (April 23).
Speaking at the same event, Ustad Adi Hidayat emphasized the critical importance of food security in Indonesia. He explained that the movement was created in alignment with Prabowo’s vision of achieving national food self-sufficiency and transforming Indonesia into a global food powerhouse.
“Today, God willing, will mark a historic moment that unites the collective energy of the nation’s people. The vision of a Golden Indonesia by 2045 cannot be realized without strong food security,” said Ustad Adi Hidayat.
He stressed that such a strategic mission cannot be accomplished by the president alone. Instead, it requires the collaborative energy and support of all sectors of society.
“This cannot be achieved by the president working alone. It requires a spirit of collaboration. When the people are energized and united, progress will accelerate,” he continued.
Ustad Adi Hidayat also shared the story behind the founding of Gerina, revealing that the idea began to take shape on January 4, 2025, when he met with Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono to discuss the most effective programs to inspire a national planting spirit.
“Let’s create a movement so that everyone becomes aware and motivated to plant. That’s how the Indonesia Planting Movement—Gerina—was born. But this movement must be supported with real instruments. Without tangible proof, it’s hard to build a culture of planting,” he explained.
