Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed deep appreciation for the People’s Republic of China’s consistent stance in defending developing nations and opposing global oppression, including its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
The statement was made during President Prabowo’s address at the 2025 Indonesia-China Business Reception, held Saturday evening (May 24) at the Shangri-La Hotel Ballroom in Jakarta. In his speech, the President emphasized that the relationship between Indonesia and China should go beyond economic cooperation and evolve into a strategic partnership rooted in friendship and solidarity in confronting global challenges.
“I want to express my deep respect for the People’s Republic of China, which has consistently stood up for the interests of developing countries. China has taken a firm position against oppression, imperialism, colonialism, and apartheid. It has supported liberation movements in nations still suffering under imperial and colonial rule,” Prabowo said.
He specifically highlighted China’s longstanding role in championing the independence of oppressed nations—even during times when China itself was still undergoing its own development journey. That unwavering support, Prabowo added, reflects a model of global leadership grounded in justice and humanity.
“Even when China was still building itself up, it stood in solidarity with liberation movements wherever they were. And to this day, we witness China’s leadership, particularly in defending the Palestinian people. It makes us proud,” he stated.
On behalf of himself and the Indonesian people, Prabowo expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and leadership for their enduring commitment.
“From the bottom of my heart, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Indonesian people, I extend our deep respect to the leadership of the People’s Republic of China for standing with the oppressed across the world. Thank you, China. Thank you,” Prabowo concluded.
