Jakarta – Indonesia’s Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, views the recently enacted bad debt relief policy for farmers, fishermen, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as a strategic measure to boost the nation’s economy.
President Prabowo Subianto officially signed Government Regulation No. 47 of 2024 at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (November 5), formally enacting the bad debt relief program for MSMEs.
Sri Mulyani explained that this policy specifically targets MSMEs in sectors such as agriculture, plantations, livestock, fisheries, and marine industries, as well as other small enterprises in areas like fashion, culinary, and the creative industries.
“This is a strategic policy aimed at strengthening sectors that play a crucial role in supporting national food security and the broader economy,” she stated via her Instagram account @smindrawati on Wednesday (November 6).
Furthermore, she noted that this decision reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the sustainability of MSMEs while creating opportunities for these sectors.
“This is also a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering MSME resilience and enabling these sectors to become more empowered and self-sufficient, given their vital role for the nation,” she added. (RR)
