Jakarta — At 10:10 AM local time on Tuesday, July 29, the official motorcade of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim entered the courtyard of Merdeka Palace. The delegation was welcomed directly by President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, his long-time friend and counterpart.

There was no formality-laden stiffness in the reception. President Prabowo personally greeted Prime Minister Anwar at his vehicle. The two leaders then walked side by side past the honor guard, their expressions—marked by eye contact and warm smiles—reflecting more than just diplomatic protocol. What unfolded was a meeting grounded in shared cultural roots and brotherhood between two kindred nations.

Prime Minister Anwar greeted members of Indonesia’s Red and White Cabinet one by one, reinforcing the deeper significance of his visit—not merely a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo, but a gesture of goodwill toward the Indonesian people as a whole.

Following a photo session, the two leaders proceeded to the President’s office to open a new chapter in the relationship between the neighboring nations through the 13th Indonesia–Malaysia Annual Consultation.

“We want to continue building upon the positive bilateral progress we’ve already made,” said President Prabowo.

In addition to highlighting existing achievements, Prabowo also addressed outstanding challenges between the two countries—particularly border issues.

“I believe we can resolve these matters—especially border-related issues—through continued dialogue, negotiation, and mutual deliberation. That has always been our principle,” he emphasized.

Throughout the discussions, a strong theme of shared identity and solidarity emerged.

“As nations with common backgrounds—shared culture, religion, and ethnic roots—we are, in essence, one family,” Prabowo concluded, reaffirming the spirit of kinship that underpins the Indonesia–Malaysia relationship.
