President Prabowo Subianto chaired a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, with the main agenda of discussing the acceleration of the development of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN). Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in his statement to the media after the meeting said that the development of the IKN remains a government priority by referring to the timeline and stages that have been set.
‘In accordance with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, we will continue the construction of IKN, of course following the timeline and stages that have been previously set as an explanation to the wider community,’ AHY said in a press statement at the Cabinet Room of the Presidential Palace Jakarta.
Minister AHY also explained that the development of IKN will focus on the concept of ‘political capital’ by completing the construction of government facilities, including legislative institutions (DPR RI, DPD RI, and MPR RI) and judicial institutions. This is in accordance with President Prabowo’s vision to create a complete governance that reflects democracy.
‘The President’s hope is to focus there first so that if all three functions have been established, we can actually carry out the tasks of political activities, both daily and strategic in nature,’ said AHY.
During the meeting, President Prabowo and his staff also discussed funding sources that involve a combination of APBN and non-APBN sources through cooperation with the private sector. The government hopes that the private sector can contribute positively and be well integrated in the IKN development project.
‘This is the presence of good cooperation between the government and business entities. We also hope that the private sector can contribute positively and of course be well integrated,’ said AHY.
Meanwhile, Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono on the same occasion also reported that in the initial stage (2022-2024), the government has invested Rp89 trillion from the state budget to build important infrastructure such as toll roads, 47 residential towers, drinking water systems, sanitation, reservoirs, retention ponds, offices, and worship facilities.
In addition, private investment of Rp58.41 trillion has been mobilised until September 2024. ‘We also received input from the Minister of Housing to be able to optimise the private sector that has carried out the groundbreaking, both from 1-8 and later the 9th, so that it is not just groundbreaking but coupled with development activities,’ said Basuki.
Also attending the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Head of IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono.
