Bangkok — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has welcomed the launch of a new flight route connecting Bangkok to Surabaya, Medan, and Phuket, expressing confidence that the development will enhance tourism ties between Indonesia and Thailand.
The announcement came during a joint press conference with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra following a bilateral meeting at the Government House in Bangkok on Monday (May 19).
“We also welcome cooperation in the aviation sector, including joint efforts to advance technology in this field,” President Prabowo said.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn elaborated that the new routes will link Bangkok and Phuket with East Java and North Sumatra.
“This new route will promote two-way tourism and strengthen both regular and regional connectivity,” she stated.
She added that the Thai government has tasked relevant agencies with exploring broader opportunities for collaboration in the tourism sector.
“We see great potential for joint tourism promotion and have instructed the relevant agencies to follow up on these prospects,” Paetongtarn concluded.
