Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has welcomed Australia’s extended five-year business visa policy for Indonesians and deeper educational collaboration, describing it as a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
The remarks came following a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (May 15).
“We appreciate the progress made in building a strong ecosystem for our bilateral relations, including the introduction of five-year business visas and other arrangements—especially those that benefit Indonesian students studying in Australia,” said Prabowo.
In 2023, Prime Minister Albanese announced the extension of Indonesia’s business visa validity from three to five years, aiming to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and enhance mobility between the two countries. Australia also offers student visas of up to five years for full-time students enrolled at recognized institutions.
President Prabowo emphasized the importance of maintaining and deepening cooperation, particularly in the face of ongoing global uncertainty. He noted that the strategic partnership across sectors—from education and trade to technology and security—has already delivered tangible benefits to both nations.
“I am committed to fostering the best possible relationship with our neighbor. Under Australia’s leadership, we have not only built a good-neighborly bond, but also a true partnership across multiple sectors. And our people-to-people ties are stronger than ever,” he affirmed.
Prabowo’s comments signal Indonesia’s intention to further strengthen collaboration with Australia in areas that directly impact human development and regional stability, with education and mobility at the forefront of that vision.
