Brasília — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, expressed enthusiasm for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s plan to bring hundreds of Brazilian entrepreneurs to Indonesia. The statement was delivered by Prabowo following a bilateral meeting with Lula at Palácio do Planalto in Brasília on Wednesday (July 9).
“We warmly welcome your plan to bring several hundred Brazilian businesspeople during your visit to Indonesia,” said Prabowo.
He emphasized that such a move could accelerate tangible cooperation between the two nations, particularly in trade and investment. “This way, we can quickly achieve real and concrete cooperation,” he added.
During the meeting, Prabowo underscored that Indonesia and Brazil share many common interests and possess tremendous potential to strengthen economic relations. He noted that both countries are large, have sizable populations, and are rich in natural resources and biodiversity.
“We often sign various cooperation agreements, but they tend to remain as written documents. Now, we recognize that we share many mutual interests and have resources that could genuinely benefit one another,” Prabowo said.
He also expressed admiration for Brazil’s advancements in agriculture and bioenergy and conveyed Indonesia’s intention to learn from Brazil’s experience.
“Brazil is at the forefront. You have set a great example in the use of biofuels and innovations in agriculture. Your productivity would be immensely valuable to Indonesia if we could learn from your experience,” he remarked.
Prabowo further appreciated Lula’s willingness to support Indonesia’s plan to send more technical teams to study Brazil’s innovations and agricultural technologies.
“President Lula and his ministers have graciously welcomed our request to send more of our technical teams to learn from your innovations, modernization, and technologies here,” he said.
In addition to his state visit to Brasília, Prabowo was in Brazil to attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. President Lula is scheduled to make a return visit to Indonesia in October.
“We will prepare a grand birthday celebration for you in Jakarta,” Prabowo concluded, referring to Lula’s upcoming 80th birthday in October.
