Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Monday (Sept. 1) visited 17 civilians and security personnel injured during a recent protest at the Police Hospital (RS Polri) in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.
“Today I felt compelled to visit our officers, our police personnel who were injured. More than 43 have been wounded; most have returned home. Currently, 17 remain here — 14 officers and three civilians,” Prabowo told reporters.
The president recounted one particularly harrowing case involving a woman who was caught in the chaos while on her way to the market.
“One of the victims is a woman who was riding her motorcycle to the market. Her thigh bone was broken, and her motorcycle was taken. I have already seen 13 patients upstairs, some in critical condition. One required skull surgery,” Prabowo said.
He added that other victims had suffered equally severe injuries.
“Another victim lost his hand, though fortunately it could be reattached. The most serious case is someone whose kidney was crushed after being stomped on. He is now undergoing dialysis. If necessary, we will seek a transplant because the damage is extremely severe,” Prabowo explained.
