Bangkok — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand in the fields of energy and food security, as part of efforts to build a more resilient and unified ASEAN regional alliance.
This statement was delivered during a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Thailand, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, following their bilateral meeting at the Government House in Bangkok on Monday (May 19).
“As ASEAN member states, we play a critical role. Today we discussed the foundations of our strategic partnership across various sectors, including defense and security, trade and investment, food and energy security, as well as key regional and global issues,” said President Prabowo.
In the area of food security, President Prabowo stated that both countries agreed to strengthen supply chains and explore joint ventures in food management and storage systems.
On the energy front, President Prabowo welcomed investment opportunities and collaboration from Thai business entities in Indonesia’s energy sector. He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to revitalizing the Indonesia–Thailand Energy Forum this year as a platform for bilateral dialogue and technological exchange.
“We welcome Thai entities to participate in our energy sector. We also intend to reopen the Indonesia–Thailand Energy Forum this year,” Prabowo noted.
In addition to energy and food security, both leaders addressed other strategic matters, including regional security, transnational crime such as human trafficking, narcotics, and online fraud, as well as enhancing cooperation in education and defense.
