Prabowo: The Islamic World Must Unite to Face Global Challenges

Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has called for greater unity and solidarity among Muslim-majority nations in order to confront and respond to the growing complexities of global challenges.

He delivered the statement during the opening of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 14).

“This parliamentary union of Islamic countries was born out of a shared awareness that the Islamic world needs a unified platform—especially among legislative institutions—to face global challenges and to defend the interests of Muslims wherever they are,” Prabowo said.

He emphasized that the parliamentary body serves as a diplomatic bridge that strengthens solidarity, advocates for justice, and helps provide solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems.

“In a world increasingly marked by polarization, conflict, and geopolitical rivalry among major powers, the role of this organization has become more important, more relevant, and more urgent than ever,” he added.

Prabowo urged all stakeholders to move in unison, reviving the spirit of Islam as a source of compassion and mercy for all of creation. He also stressed that unity is key to effectively supporting the Palestinian cause.

“If we are weak, we cannot possibly help Palestine. In fact, our voices will go unheard. Our voices will only matter if we are united and strong,” he asserted.

The President welcomed this year’s PUIC theme—good governance and strong institutions—emphasizing that no country can be resilient or competitive without honest leadership and sound governance.

“Islam once led the world in science and technology. We must return to that path if we are to uplift the welfare of our people. We cannot become strong if our people remain poor,” he said firmly.
