Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto addressed the uncertain global geopolitical landscape, particularly in Ukraine and the Middle East. He expressed hope for positive breakthroughs, including a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine.
“The global geopolitical situation is highly sensitive and uncertain,” Prabowo stated during Bank Indonesia’s (BI) annual meeting in Jakarta on Friday (29/11).
Prabowo appreciated recent positive developments in the Middle East, such as the ceasefire in Lebanon. He expressed optimism that similar measures could take place in Gaza, Palestine, to bring much-needed peace to the region.
“We hope for breakthroughs in Gaza as well,” he said.
In addition to his comments on global issues, Prabowo emphasized the importance of maintaining Indonesia’s domestic stability amid global uncertainties. He lauded the efforts of all parties involved in ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections across the country.
“We just concluded the regional elections at the regency and provincial levels across Indonesia. Alhamdulillah, they were conducted peacefully and calmly. For this, I extend my gratitude to everyone who worked hard,” he remarked.
He highlighted this success as a testament to Indonesia’s resilience as a developing nation with diverse challenges. Prabowo also praised Indonesia’s economic achievements, such as maintaining low inflation and above-average global economic growth.
“I’m proud. Everywhere I go, since my tenure as Minister of Defense, Indonesia is respected. Why? We are a great nation, a nation that has progressed. We are known for never defaulting,” Prabowo stated.
Despite these successes, Prabowo reminded everyone to remain vigilant. He emphasized that the stability Indonesia has achieved must be nurtured to face future global challenges. (RR)
