Karawang — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, inspected the saline tilapia aquaculture at the Balai Layanan Usaha Produksi Perikanan Budidaya (BLUPPB) in Karawang, West Java, on Monday (2/12).

The saline tilapia farming program at BLUPPB Karawang holds significant potential for supporting the provision of free nutritious meals based on fish protein for the community. This aligns with the government’s efforts to combat stunting and improve public nutrition quality.

Accompanied by Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Prabowo arrived at the site at 9:00 AM wearing a brown safari uniform and a navy-blue cap. Director General of Aquaculture TB Haeru was also present.

Before inspecting the location, Prabowo and Trenggono reviewed a map of the 84-hectare facility. Trenggono explained that the saline tilapia ponds in Karawang aim to achieve production targets of 80–100 tons per hectare per cycle.

Prabowo took part in seeding tilapia fingerlings, symbolizing efforts to enhance pond productivity and support the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries’ priority programs based on the blue economy framework.

Following this, Prabowo visited the juvenile fish cultivation area, which represents the initial cycle of aquaculture. He also interacted with hundreds of residents and fish farmers present around the aquaculture facility.

This initiative is in line with the Asta Cita vision of Prabowo-Gibran for food self-sufficiency, economic equity, and poverty alleviation.

The visit underscores the government’s commitment to promoting the aquaculture sector as a key pillar of the national economy while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global market. (RR)
