Bogor – President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, greeted Speaker of the House and PDIP DPP Chairperson Puan Maharani at the 60th-anniversary celebration of the Golkar Party, held at the Sentul International Convention Center, Bogor, West Java, on Thursday evening (13/12).
In his opening remarks, Prabowo expressed his comfort with the Golkar Party and the coalition parties of Indonesia Maju.
He then extended his sentiment, stating that he also felt at ease with Puan’s presence at the event.
“I feel comfortable with Mbak Puan here tonight, and I appreciate PDIP,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo went on to explain that his vision of national unity was inspired by Indonesia’s first president, Bung Karno, who is Puan’s grandfather.
“Although I have a vision of national unity inspired by Bung Karno, I also respect that in a democracy, there needs to be an opposition outside the coalition to provide checks and balances,” Prabowo remarked.
Prabowo stated his belief that all political parties in Indonesia share a deep love for the nation and the red-and-white spirit. He called on all parties, whether within the Merah Putih Cabinet Coalition or outside the government coalition, to avoid divisiveness.
“I believe that whether inside or outside [the coalition], at their core, every political party in Indonesia deeply loves this country and its red-and-white flag. Therefore, we must now have confidence and refuse to let ourselves be pitted against each other,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
