Jakarta – President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, expressed gratitude to Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo, during his speech at the inauguration of the Istiqlal-Cathedral Silaturahmi Tunnel in Jakarta on Thursday (12/12).
Prabowo acknowledged that the tunnel, which connects the Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church, should have been inaugurated during Jokowi’s administration.
“The inauguration of this tunnel is a very meaningful symbol. I want to thank all the figures who made this symbol a reality, which actually should have been inaugurated by Mr. Joko Widodo,” said Prabowo.
During the event, Prabowo also addressed Jokowi, should he be watching the broadcast.
“I just got the privilege to enjoy this moment. Many people worked hard for it—that’s what we call fate. Perhaps Mr. Jokowi is watching this,” said Prabowo.
“Mr. Jokowi, sorry, I’m the one inaugurating it,” he added with a light-hearted tone.
After the ceremony, Prabowo explained to the media that the proposal and approval for the tunnel occurred during Jokowi’s era.
On this occasion, Prabowo also emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony and unity among Indonesians, symbolized by the inauguration of the Silaturahmi Tunnel.
“Let us continue to safeguard harmony and closeness among us. Nothing is more important than unity and peace. Only through peace can we achieve a just and prosperous nation,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
