Magelang — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that his administration is actively reviewing subsidy distribution to ensure that benefits reach those in need, rather than affluent groups.

Prabowo expressed this stance in an interview with Retno Pinasti from SCTV, quoted on Monday (October 28). During the interview, Retno questioned Prabowo about the government’s plans to refine subsidy programs—such as fuel subsidies and direct cash assistance (BLT)—which are often criticized for missing their target audience.

“We are studying this closely and exploring the best alternatives,” Prabowo responded.

The President noted that while progress has been made in delivering subsidies, his administration is determined to improve targeting so that these benefits reach those who need them most.

“We’ve made considerable progress, but we want to be even more precise in our targeting. Subsidies should not end up benefiting the wealthy,” Prabowo emphasized.

Previously, in a Plenary Session at the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) in Jakarta, Prabowo had shared a similar commitment, asserting that his administration would ensure that all government support and subsidies intended for low-income communities would effectively reach them under his leadership.

“Ladies and gentlemen, all subsidies and assistance for our people in challenging circumstances must be guaranteed to reach those who genuinely need them,” Prabowo declared at the session.

Prabowo further stressed that his administration would take bold steps to scrutinize and refine the subsidy and aid distribution process to enhance accuracy.

“If necessary, we should restructure these subsidies to go directly to the families who need them,” he stated.

With the planned implementation of technology and digital solutions, Prabowo is optimistic that subsidies and aid will reliably reach every family in need.
