London — During his visit to the residence and office of the UK Prime Minister at Downing Street, President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto had an unexpected yet delightful encounter with Larry the Cat, Britain’s most famous feline.
Prabowo shared this moment through his Instagram account, @prabowo, posting a photo of him petting Larry’s head and belly while wearing a dark blue cloak and scarf.
“Meeting Larry the cat at 10 Downing Street. London, United Kingdom,” Prabowo captioned the post.
Larry is a domestic cat and holds the title of “Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office” at 10 Downing Street, a role he has served in since 2011. Larry is cared for by the Downing Street staff and is not a personal pet of the UK Prime Minister.
Currently 17 years old, Larry has witnessed the tenures of six UK Prime Ministers: David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, and now Keir Starmer.
Prabowo himself is a known cat lover. He has a cat named Bobby Kertanegara, whom he adopted in 2017 after finding him near his residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV in South Jakarta. Bobby has since become one of the most famous cats in Indonesia.
Prabowo’s visit to 10 Downing Street included a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The meeting resulted in a joint statement regarding a new Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Indonesia and the United Kingdom. (RR)
