Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto, during the first meeting of the Merah Putih Cabinet, explained his decision to host a retreat for ministers at Lembah Tidar, the Indonesian Military Academy in Magelang. Prabowo emphasized that teamwork and courage are crucial in beginning the government’s work.
“For this reason, in the near future, I will take you all to Magelang, where we will spend several days for additional briefings, and we will hold coordination sessions at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java,” Prabowo stated on Wednesday (October 23).
Prabowo also noted that Magelang holds historical significance as a center of resistance against colonial powers. He hopes the spirit of courage that defines the region can inspire his cabinet members.
“Magelang is a historic site of resistance against colonizers, notably recognized as the battleground of Prince Diponegoro’s fight amid five mountains. I believe it brings with it a sense of tradition rooted in bravery, heroism, and patriotism,” he elaborated.
In discussing the importance of courage, Prabowo highlighted that ministers must be bold and not hesitate to provide the best possible service to the public. He noted that government bureaucracy is often criticized for being obstructive rather than helpful.
“There’s even a saying, ‘If it can be made difficult, why make it easy?’ I ask the ministers to be more courageous and unafraid to offer the best service to our people. If you are unsatisfied with the officials under you, report it, and we will replace them immediately,” Prabowo said.
“There are many people eager to serve. No one here is untouchable. If they don’t comply or work hard for the nation and the people, I give you the authority to remove them and send them home rather than let them burden us,” he asserted.
Prabowo also urged his ministers to be efficient in managing the national budget, discouraging excessive spending on ceremonies and international trips.
“I ask the finance minister, the coordinating ministers, and all other ministers to review the national budget allocation (APBN). Study the budget plans (DIPA) again. I want details on activities that are too ceremonial—too many seminars, too many discussions, too many conferences, and too many overseas trips. Please reduce these,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
