Jakarta – Indonesian Minister of Defense and President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, highlighted that Australia was one of the countries that supported Indonesia’s independence in the 1940s.
“As we, Indonesians, always remember, Australia was one of the countries that supported our independence struggle,” said Prabowo during a press conference after his discussion with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra on Tuesday (20/8).
He also noted the current fluctuations in political and geopolitical situations.
“However, I think we are very happy today because we have established very close cooperation over the past few decades,” he stated.
This long-standing cooperation will continue under the principle of the good neighbor policy.
“I am committed to continuing this good neighborly relationship,” Prabowo affirmed.
“Of course, I will continue with the general policies of President Joko Widodo where Australia plays a very important role for us in most areas, especially in the economic field,” Prabowo added.
Previously, Prabowo arrived at RAAF Base Fairbairn on Monday (19/8) at 19:04 local time. (RR)
