Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto took a firm stance against corrupt individuals, emphasizing that while repentance is encouraged, stolen public funds must be returned.
“Some people say Prabowo wants to forgive corruptors. That’s not it. Repent, but return what you stole. It’s that simple. You can’t just steal and then repent without consequences. Return what you took! I’m not forgiving corruptors—absolutely not,” Prabowo declared during the National Christmas Celebration in Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday (December 28) evening.
Prabowo urged corrupt individuals to seek repentance, but clarified that this does not absolve them from their responsibility to repay what they have taken from the public.
“I want those who have sinned in the past to repent. That’s a fundamental teaching of religion. Repent. But think of the people—return the money. Do it before we have to track down your assets. We will find them,” he added.
Prabowo also called on all government officials to maintain integrity in carrying out their responsibilities.
“The people demand a clean government. Let me repeat, the people demand a clean government. I was elected by the people, and I insist that all Indonesian government officials clean up their act,” he emphasized.
Prabowo’s remarks underline his administration’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability within the government.
