Bandar Seri Begawan – Indonesia’s Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam at Nurul Iman Palace, Brunei Darussalam, on Thursday, September 5.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed strategic issues, particularly in the field of defense. Prabowo expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Brunei in various sectors.
One key area highlighted by Prabowo was education. He extended an invitation for more Bruneian officers to pursue their education at the Republic of Indonesia Defence University (RIDU).
“We are pleased to invite officers from the Brunei Armed Forces to apply for the master’s programs offered at RIDU,” said Prabowo.
To date, RIDU has hosted international students from various countries, including one Bruneian officer who graduated in 2014.
Prabowo also emphasized that the Ministry of Defense is working on developing RIDU into a world-class, research-oriented institution.
In addition to education, the 2024-2029 president-elect expressed his interest in exploring defense industry cooperation. He believes that by sharing technology and expertise, both nations can meet their specific defense needs.
“I am confident that by sharing technology and expertise, we can collaborate in developing defense systems and equipment tailored to our unique requirements,” Prabowo added.
Following the meeting, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah hosted a luncheon for Prabowo. Prabowo is scheduled to depart Brunei Darussalam to continue his working visit to Laos. (RR)
