Jordan — Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, held a bilateral meeting with the United States Secretary of State, Antony John Blinken, in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday (June 11).

The meeting took place after Prabowo spoke at the ‘Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza’ emergency response summit.

In this context, Indonesia welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2735, proposed by US President Biden, which includes a three-phase proposal for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Indonesia also appreciated the mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar.

“Indonesia is ready to cooperate with America, Egypt, and Qatar to ensure negotiations continue and to realize a permanent ceasefire and a just and lasting peace in Palestine. An immediate, full, and comprehensive ceasefire is essential to revive the peace process,” said Prabowo.

At the same event, Prabowo reiterated the urgency of international support for the state of Palestine.

This support is crucial for realizing statehood and national development, including strengthening its government, providing aid for recovery, and moving towards its membership in the UN.

During the bilateral meeting with Prabowo, Blinken expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s support of the ceasefire proposal.

“Thank you to the Minister of Defense for Indonesia’s support of the proposal to quickly achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the release of all hostages,” said Antony to Prabowo.

At the end of the meeting, Antony congratulated Prabowo on his victory as the President-elect of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term. He also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the US and Indonesia.
