Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called on the nation’s entrepreneurs to create a social movement by setting aside part of their income to provide school uniforms for underprivileged children.
Speaking at the National Solidarity Movement (GSN) declaration event held at the Indonesia Arena in Gelora Bung Karno, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (November 2, 2024), Prabowo encouraged direct action over discussion.
“If each of us set aside Rp 100,000 a month, that would support one child. If you can spare Rp 500,000, that’s five children. Less talk, fewer seminars—let’s focus on action,” Prabowo stated.
Prabowo also commended the GSN’s initiative, which has already donated school uniforms to 10,000 children in need.
“GSN has been active; I know, I’ve been monitoring. They’ve provided uniforms for 10,000 children, which is impressive, but still not enough. One child needs school uniforms that cost around Rp 1.2 million a year, including shoes, socks, and sportswear. If we each contribute Rp 1.2 million annually—about Rp 120,000 per month—that can support a child’s schooling needs. God willing, we can allocate the state budget (APBN) for free meal programs as well,” Prabowo emphasized. (RR)
