Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said that he realizes that judges have to carry a very heavy burden. Thus, he expressed his respect and appreciation for judges in Indonesia.
He conveyed this when delivering remarks at the Special Session of the 2024 Annual Report at the Supreme Court Building, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (19/2).
“I would like to express my respect, my appreciation to the entire extended family of the Indonesian judiciary. I admit that it is only now that I truly realize and understand how heavy the burden is on the judges,” Prabowo said.
He said he had always worked in the execution sector or as a policy implementer. Therefore, he feels that the law is easy to enforce.
“Sorry, all my life I have been in the execution sector, the implementation sector, I am a perpetrator, sometimes we are perpetrators, we think that the law is something that is easy to enforce, easy to run,” he said.
However, his view changed after listening to a report from Supreme Court Chief Justice Sunarto who explained that judges must handle many cases that are not easy. Prabowo also thanked the Supreme Court for the invitation to attend the special session.
“Thank you for this invitation, I feel that I have learned the most today, understand and understand the dimensions of the workload that judges have to handle, consider, study and decide hundreds of cases. There are hundreds of cases per judge, millions of cases that you have handled,” he said.
Seeing this very heavy workload, he reiterated his commitment to improve the quality of all judges.
“Therefore, I am determined to cooperate with the legislature, we must improve the quality of life of all judges. Sorry, I have said several times that the quality of life of our judges must be the best,” he concluded. (RR)
