Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto described Indonesia’s palm oil as a highly strategic resource, emphasizing its critical importance to many nations that rely on its supply.
“Protect our palm oil plantations—they are national assets,” Prabowo urged while attending the 2025-2029 Medium-Term National Development Plan (RPJMN) meeting at the Bappenas building in Jakarta on Monday (December 30).
Prabowo noted Indonesia’s fortunate position, maintaining peace while serving as a vital supplier to countries globally.
“Many countries depend heavily on our palm oil. It seems they fear losing access to it,” he remarked.
Prabowo also suggested increasing palm oil cultivation as a means of boosting income for Indonesian communities.
He underscored the strategic significance of palm oil, particularly in light of global dynamics, pointing out that even attempts by European countries to limit imports from Indonesia would ultimately be counterproductive.
“Even if Europe tries to impose restrictions, I’d say, ‘Thank you, we won’t sell to you.’ But then, they’ll realize they need palm oil for chocolate and cosmetics. They’ll be at a loss,” Prabowo quipped.
The President’s remarks reaffirm the central role of palm oil as a key resource for Indonesia’s economy and its global relevance.
