Jakarta – Indonesia’s 8th President, Prabowo Subianto, will gather his cabinet members for a leadership camp at the Indonesian Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java, from October 25-27. According to Khairul Fahmi, an analyst from the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISSES), this initiative reflects Prabowo’s effort to instill discipline and resilience in his “Kabinet Merah Putih” (Red and White Cabinet).
“This approach highlights a leadership strategy that prioritizes discipline, resilience, and responsiveness within the government,” Fahmi said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday (October 21).
Fahmi elaborated that by conducting this camp in a military environment, Prabowo aims to enhance the leadership qualities of his ministers and their deputies, shaping them into a strong and resilient team capable of tackling the challenges of the next five years with speed and effectiveness.
“It’s important to understand that the primary goal of this camp is not to infuse militaristic ideas into governance but to equip officials with stronger leadership skills and crisis management abilities,” Fahmi clarified.
The leadership training for the Red and White Cabinet is expected to focus on character development and discipline, which can be applied in a civilian government context. Fahmi emphasized that Prabowo’s strategy is not about undermining democratic governance but rather about instilling strong leadership values.
“Prabowo seems determined to create a more unified cabinet, one that is prepared to confront challenges with a firm and structured approach, while remaining adaptive to the evolving dynamics,” he added.
Fahmi also noted that this move could strengthen Prabowo’s government by making it more responsive and effective, integrating the positive discipline values of the military into governance.
“This reflects Prabowo’s commitment to building a government that is well-prepared and resilient for future challenges, while still upholding the democratic values that underpin Indonesia’s governance system,” Fahmi concluded. (RR)
