Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, received an enthusiastic welcome at the House of Representatives (DPR) during a working meeting with Commission I at the DPR/MPR Building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon (September 25).
Arriving at Nusantara I Building at 2:48 PM WIB, the 2024-2028 president-elect was greeted by a large gathering of media. Prabowo quickly made his way to the Commission I meeting room, where he was met with a warm standing ovation from the commission’s leaders and members.
In addition to Prabowo, other attendees included Deputy Defense Minister Herindra, Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas, and spokesperson Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak.
To honor Prabowo’s arrival, Commission I had specially prepared a flower pot placed prominently on the table where Prabowo was seated, alongside a floral arrangement.
The meeting, chaired by Commission I Chairwoman Meutya Hafid, was convened to discuss the first-stage review of five defense cooperation bills. The agenda included reports from the working committee, the reading of the draft bill texts, final statements from each political faction, a government summary, the signing of the bill drafts, and a decision to move forward to the second stage of deliberations.
It is worth noting that the DPR is scheduled to hold its final plenary session on Thursday (September 26), with the new term set to begin on October 1, 2024. This term will culminate in the inauguration of Prabowo Subianto as President and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Vice President on October 20. (RR)
