Jakarta – Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Thursday (6/6). During the meeting, Jokowi assigned Prabowo to attend an agenda concerning international security issues.
Prabowo was tasked by Jokowi to attend the Summit (KTT) discussing the Gaza issue in Palestine, which will be held in Jordan.
“The President has assigned me to go to Jordan to attend the Summit on the Gaza issue in Palestine; he also instructed me to try to go to Saudi Arabia first,” said Prabowo.
Additionally, Prabowo revealed that Jokowi supports Prabowo’s plan to send peacekeeping troops to Gaza if requested by the UN and to establish a field hospital. Prabowo announced this plan while speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue forum in Singapore, last Saturday (1/6).
“The President is very supportive and has instructed me that we are ready to send hospitals, send our medical personnel to Gaza, working in collaboration with several of our partner countries, especially Middle Eastern countries that have also operated hospitals there, namely the United Arab Emirates,” he said.
Prabowo also shared that during his two days in Singapore, he met with several international figures, ranging from defense ministers of various countries to having a courtesy call with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
“I also met with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. I reported to the President my conversations as I continue trying to persuade President Zelenskyy, offering our good services whether Indonesia can help to push towards a ceasefire,” he said.
“He (Zelenskyy) has not yet agreed to our proposals. But we will continue to try persistently,” he added.
