Jakarta – The Head of the Presidential Communication Office, Hasan Nasbi, reported that President Prabowo Subianto underscored four critical issues during a plenary cabinet meeting, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to tackling online gambling, drugs, smuggling, and corruption.
“The President highlighted four key issues that we must address with utmost seriousness. The first is online gambling, the second is narcotics, the third is smuggling, and the fourth is corruption,” Hasan stated at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (November 6, 2024).
Hasan added that Prabowo conveyed this message strongly to law enforcement agencies.
“The President has called on law enforcement to act decisively on these four matters. The Attorney General’s Office, the police—everyone has been instructed by the President not to hesitate in enforcing the law on these issues,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid mentioned that Prabowo issued firm directives to the cabinet, including the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, the Attorney General’s Office, and the National Police, to ensure that no one protects or supports online gambling operations.
“His message this time is clear: work together effectively. Several institutions were mentioned, including the police, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs. But it’s not limited to just these three—all institutions are expected to collaborate, with no backing or protection for these illegal activities. In his own words, ‘There should be no backing, no assistance of any kind,'” Meutya explained.
“I believe this reiterates the President’s firm stance on the fight against online gambling. He reminded us that the victims are often those from disadvantaged backgrounds, so there can no longer be any collusion. His exact words were, ‘Work together, unite, to fight online gambling,’” Meutya added.
