Rio de Janeiro — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the MIKTA Leaders Gathering on the sidelines of the G20 Brazil 2024 Summit at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), Rio de Janeiro, on Monday afternoon (11/18). This marks the second time MIKTA leaders have convened on the sidelines of a G20 Summit.
MIKTA is a consultative forum of five countries: Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia. It was established in 2013 during a meeting of the foreign ministers of the member countries on the sidelines of the 68th UN General Assembly in New York, United States.
The MIKTA meeting at the G20 Brazil Summit concluded that the forum serves as a platform for fostering more inclusive and responsive cooperation on global issues.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to creating a world that is safe, peaceful, just, equitable, inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous. They called on all UN member states to adhere to the UN Charter and resolutions, including those adopted by the Security Council.
“MIKTA leaders agreed to seek pragmatic and creative solutions to regional and global challenges, recognizing that the well-being of future generations depends on the willingness to take joint action,” the MIKTA leaders stated.
The event continued with a cordial gathering and a group photo session, symbolizing the unity, solidarity, and collaboration among MIKTA member countries.
In addition to Prabowo, the MIKTA leaders present included Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. (RR)
