Jordan – Indonesian Minister of Defense and President-elect for the term 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, met with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, on Monday (10/6), to discuss humanitarian aid and protection for the people of Gaza.
The meeting between the two leaders was part of Prabowo’s activities representing Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the high-level conference “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza,” held today, June 11, 2024.
During the meeting, Prabowo conveyed that Jordan has been one of the most active partners with Indonesia in advocating for the Palestinian people.
“The Indonesian government is also closely monitoring the deteriorating developments in Gaza,” said Prabowo.
“The number of casualties and injuries continues to rise. Indonesia is deeply concerned about the extremely vulnerable conditions of the people in Gaza,” he continued.
King Abdullah II expressed his gratitude and respect for Prabowo’s presence in Jordan representing Jokowi at the high-level conference on Gaza.
In their meeting, both emphasized the importance of international joint efforts to coordinate and enhance the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
King Abdullah II underscored the importance of today’s high-level humanitarian emergency conference in Gaza in uniting efforts to coordinate and increase humanitarian aid to the region, thereby alleviating the dire humanitarian conditions.
King Abdullah II also stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and protection for civilians.
He also praised Indonesia’s efforts to promote peace in the region and Indonesia’s support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which positions Indonesia as playing a critical role as mandated by the UN.
Echoing what Prabowo previously stated at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, King Abdullah II also highlighted the need for a political horizon to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, and the Director of the King’s Office, Dr. Jaafar Hassan.
