Prabowo Receives Warm Welcome from Brazilian President at the Presidential Palace, Official Ceremony Held as Indonesian Flag Flies High

Brasília — A solemn and dignified atmosphere filled the courtyard of Palácio do Planalto in Brasília as President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, arrived for a state visit to meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

President Prabowo arrived at 10:35 a.m. local time on Wednesday (July 9), where he was greeted with full military honors led by President Lula.

Dressed in a dark navy suit and traditional Indonesian peci, Prabowo saluted as he walked past the Honor Guard of Brazil, lined up neatly to receive him.

The red-and-white Indonesian flag was raised alongside Brazil’s national flag as the Indonesian national anthem Indonesia Raya was solemnly played.

Prabowo stood in respectful silence beside Lula, paying tribute not only during the Indonesian anthem but also as Brazil’s national anthem echoed through the square — a gesture reflecting his deep respect for his diplomatic counterpart and the values of statehood.

Following the welcoming ceremony, the two heads of state entered the palace, exchanged a warm handshake, and posed for official photographs before proceeding together to greet members of their respective delegations.

President Prabowo was accompanied by several senior Indonesian officials, including Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Brian Yuliarto, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil Edy Yusup.

Representing the Brazilian side were Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Minister of Agriculture Carlos Henrique Baqueta Fávaro, Minister of Education Camilo Santana, Minister of Social Development José Wellington Barroso de Araújo Dias, Minister of the Environment Marina Silva, and Presidential Adviser Celso Amorim. Also in attendance were COP30 President André Aranha Corrêa do Lago and Brazil’s Ambassador to Indonesia George Prata.

The visit was made even more memorable by a ceremonial performance from the Brazilian military band and mounted cavalry, who proudly flew the Indonesian flag from the palace balcony — a symbolic moment that underscored the growing friendship between the two G20 and BRICS member states.
