Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto’s administration has marked a historic milestone in Indonesia’s food security strategy. For the first time since the establishment of state logistics agency Perum Bulog in 1969, the government’s rice reserves have officially surpassed the 4-million-ton mark—a breakthrough hailed as a critical step toward national food self-sufficiency.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to this achievement, emphasizing that the milestone is inseparable from President Prabowo’s leadership.
“Praise be to God, today we’ve made history. For the first time since Bulog was founded in 1969, the government’s rice reserves have officially crossed the 4-million-ton threshold,” Amran announced in an official statement on his Instagram account @a.amran_sulaiman on Friday, May 30.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the exceptional attention and direction of President @prabowo, who has consistently championed breakthroughs in the agricultural sector,” he added.
Amran stressed that the abundant stockpile is not just a statistical milestone—it’s a tangible outcome of farmer-focused agricultural policies. Under Prabowo’s guidance, strategies to boost domestic production and optimize local procurement have proven effective in stabilizing food supplies and enhancing farmers’ livelihoods.
“Today, farmers aren’t just harvesting more—they’re earning more, thanks to favorable grain prices,” Amran said.
He also extended his appreciation to a broad coalition of contributors: from farmers, members of Commission IV of the House of Representatives, the military and police, prosecutors, local governments, agricultural advisors, and rice millers, to academics and the media.
“This is a concrete step toward food sovereignty and national prosperity,” Amran affirmed.
According to Bulog, as of Thursday night, May 29, Indonesia’s total rice stock reached 4,001,059 tons, with locally sourced rice accounting for 2,407,257 tons. This figure stands as a symbol of cross-sector collaboration in safeguarding national food supplies amid ongoing global uncertainties.
With this achievement, Indonesia is firmly positioning itself on the path toward sustainable food security. President Prabowo’s agricultural policies are beginning to yield concrete results—bolstering national reserves while restoring farmers’ confidence in their government.
