Tangerang – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has proposed a special initiative for Indonesian citizens and pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. During his visit to Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport—now officially designated as the Hajj and Umrah Terminal—on Sunday (May 4), Prabowo revealed that he had submitted a formal request to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to build an Indonesian village near the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca.
“We’ve submitted our request to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, specifically to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During my most recent meeting with him, I proposed Indonesia’s desire to establish an Indonesian residential area in the Holy Land, as close as possible to the Masjid al-Haram,” said Prabowo.
According to Prabowo, the proposal is aimed at maximizing comfort for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims, who represent one of the largest pilgrim groups in the world. He added that the Saudi response to the idea was very positive.
“His reaction was quite encouraging. He responded by saying, ‘Let’s plan it out technically and properly.’ I believe the Minister of Religious Affairs has also made a visit, and we plan to return soon. God willing, if approved by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we will have our own village,” Prabowo stated optimistically.
During the same event, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the newly inaugurated Hajj and Umrah Terminal 2F, commending the modern and spacious facilities, which can serve tens of millions of travelers annually.
“Congratulations. This is a fine, modern, spacious facility. Its passenger capacity is impressive—expected to serve more than 94 million people per year. Once again, congratulations. It is a great honor for me to officially inaugurate this Hajj and Umrah Terminal at Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 2F,” he concluded.
