Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, visited Sentosa Funeral Home at RSPAD Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (July 30) to pay his final respects to the late Kwik Kian Gie—a prominent economist and respected national statesman.
Upon arriving at the funeral home, President Prabowo was greeted by the relatives and family of the late Kwik Kian Gie, before proceeding to the chamber where the deceased lay in repose.
With solemnity and deep respect, Prabowo honored Kwik Kian Gie, who during his lifetime was widely known as a principal advocate of Pancasila-based economics.
Kwik, an influential economist and political figure, passed away at the age of 90 on Monday evening, July 28, 2025, at 10:00 PM (WIB).
For Prabowo, Kwik was not only an economist but also a friend and mentor who provided valuable insights into the nation’s development path.
“I came here simply to pay my respects and express my condolences. Mr. Kwik was a national figure who made tremendous contributions. His ideas were deeply committed to defending the Pancasila economy, to upholding Article 33 of the Constitution,” said President Prabowo.
Reflecting on his personal connection with Kwik, Prabowo noted that the relationship went beyond formalities; Kwik was someone who consistently offered advice and thoughtful perspectives over the years.
“He was an extraordinary figure. I felt a close bond with him. He gave me a great deal of counsel,” Prabowo added.
Even in the final days before his passing, Kwik remained actively engaged, continuing to send messages and recommendations to the President.
“Just a few days ago, he sent me a message via WhatsApp—offering suggestions and thoughts. He never stopped reaching out. I believe that’s all I can say. Today, Indonesia has lost one of its finest sons. Thank you,” he concluded.
