Jakarta – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized that the deaths of four civilians in Makassar were the result of rioters’ actions, not part of legitimate expression of aspirations.
The President delivered the statement after visiting several victims of the protest that ended in chaos at the Police Hospital (RS Polri), Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, Monday (September 1).
“And remember, in South Sulawesi four innocent people, who had nothing to do with politics, became victims, the DPR building was set on fire—these are acts of treason, this is not the conveyance of aspirations,” he said.
Prabowo stated that he had ordered law enforcement authorities to immediately investigate the perpetrators and ensure all those responsible are brought to justice. He also reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the people and confronting criminal networks without hesitation.
“So, all state apparatus will investigate who is responsible. I suspect we already have some indications, and we will not hesitate. I will not hesitate to defend the people. I will confront these mafias, no matter how strong they are, in the name of the people,” he asserted.
