Prabowo: Indonesia Poised to Become One of the First Countries to Achieve Net-Zero Emissions

Bondowoso— President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, expressed confidence that Indonesia is well positioned to become one of the first countries to reach net-zero carbon emissions on schedule. Speaking via video conference on Thursday (June 26), the President made the remarks during the inauguration of renewable energy development across 15 provinces and the expansion of oil production by 30,000 barrels per day at the Cepu Block in East Java.

“We are in a strong position to become one of the first countries to achieve zero carbon emissions on time. More importantly, we can generate energy efficiently while reducing the cost of expensive logistics chains,” Prabowo stated.

“Today is proof that we are on the right path. I feel proud, grateful, and optimistic,” Prabowo said. “As President, I am honored to be supported by a dedicated team across ministries, directorates general, SKK Migas, provincial and local governments, and all stakeholders involved.”

President Prabowo also extended his appreciation to all contributors in the energy sector, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), and companies such as Medco Energi and ExxonMobil, for their consistent support in driving Indonesia’s energy transformation.

“The reports I’ve received show that our oil and gas reserves are significant. The technology to accelerate the development of these resources is readily available,” he noted. “But renewable energy—especially solar power—is the future of our nation. Solar energy allows villages, districts, regencies, and even remote islands to become energy self-sufficient. This represents a tremendous hope for Indonesia’s bright future.”
